Transferring Files WS_FTP Pro Editing a File You can edit files on an FTP site only if the site administrator has
given you permission to do so. The procedure for editing a file differs
slightly depending o n whether you are working in the Classic or
Explorer interface.
In the Classic interface: 1 Select the file.                                                  Note
If the file is on an FTP site, WS_FTP Pro will first create a
temporary file by making a copy of the selected file in the Temp
folder on your PC.
2 Select Edit file from the right-mouse menu. •     If the file is a text file, the temporary file is opened in the text       viewer. (You can set the default text viewer on the General
      tab of program options.)
•     If the fileis a data file, the temporary file is opened in its
associated application.
If Remote Edit uses Shell Execute is turn on
(General tab of program options), the file is opened
in the application that Windows associates with the
file extension.
If Remote Edit Uses Shell Execute is turned off
(General tab of program options), the file is opened in

the application indicated on the Associations tab (if any);
otherwise, the Windows file association is used.
•     If the file is an application (a binary file) or does not have an
application associated with it, it is opened in Windows
Notepad. Note, however, that the results are unpredictable.
3 Edit the file as desired. When you are finished editing, close the
file and it will automatically be saved with its original file name
in its original location. (Again, note that this can happen only if
you have permission to edit files on the current FTP site).
